Multimedia Center - Cinema Paradiso (MMC-CP)

Connecting with people and cultures

The Multimedia Centre (MMC) is a 122 seater auditorium in the Town Hall complex. Cinema Paradiso (CP) is a film group associated with the venue that regularly hosts films of different genres, regions, countries, and themes, on most evenings, and on Sundays, a matinee show for children. The film schedule can be found in the News & Notes and on Auronet. It biannually hosts the Auroville Film Festival, and runs topical film series like the Eco-Film Fest in April to celebrate Earth Day. Any individual or group can book the MMC venue at time slots offered with a nominal contribution and host films, lectures, and presentations of their choice. It is a good sized venue with great sound quality to host an average crowd for a wide range of offerings.

Core Support

The cinema receives a budget from the City Services to assist in its running expenses. This is supplemented partly by the contribution people/groups make for booking MMC and by the voluntary donations from the audience. Cinema Paradiso programmes are open and free for all to attend.

Film Festival

This biannual film festival operates under the Cinema Paradiso, which offers the venue. However, the festival is planned, funded, and organized by a dedicated team.

Aim of the Film Festival

AVFF's aim is to connect with people and cultures within and beyond Auroville and to further the aspiration of human unity by showcasing films that develop the theme of human unity. The festival features films that are created in and around Auroville, as well as international films that explore the topic of human unity.

AVFF wants to turn film-viewing in Auroville, a relatively passive activity, into a creative expression using digital media and, in the process, to foster a deeper understanding and exploration of the aspiration of Auroville. Through the Film Festival, the community is engaged in interactive expression through digital films.
