Auroville Puncture and Repair Service

The Auroville Puncture Service has been fixing bikes for years. Arumugam, who grew up in Auroville, has been working there since he was young, learning mechanics at the Water Service before moving to the current workshop.

Need a flat tire fixed? No problem! The Auroville Puncture Service is always there to help Aurovilians, free of charge. Their friendly team can even come to you if your bike won't start in the morning, fixing minor issues and performing basic maintenance.

Running the service isn't always a smooth ride. Arumugam, the manager, is dedicated to empowering his team, encouraging them to take responsibility and even open their shops someday. He also faces the challenge of finding someone to take over the daily operations, as it requires a 6-day-a-week commitment.

Another hurdle is funding. The Puncture Service operates on a tight budget, which recently faced cuts. Arumugam, however, is firm in his belief that the service should remain free. He emphasizes the importance of Auroville setting a good example for the world, not resorting to commercial practices. As he says, "We want to be a good example. I think that is what the Mother wanted."
