Vengadesh
On April 28th, 2010, S.Vengadesh, Aurovilian since 1992, passed away in Arka, at the young age of 39.
After taking care of Atithi Griha guesthouse for years, Vengadesh had the opportunity to join the British Navy and left for the U.K. in 2006, together with his wife Banumathi and their daughters Priyadurga and Jayashree. Nearly two years ago he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and even though he had the best treatment on offer, it became apparent that it was terminal.
Recently Vengadesh and Banumathi travelled to Auroville to stay here for one month only. Many of his friends came to see their emaciated friend and provided him with a warm and loving atmosphere from which to depart in grace.
Having remained in the Auroville Health Centre's Farewell Room, awaiting the arrival of his daughters, Vengadesh’s body was cremated on Sunday, May 2nd, at the Bommaiyarpalayam cremation grounds. The Royal Naval attaché connected to the British High Commission in Chennai, attended the ceremony.
While thanking Vengadesh for his services and bidding him a fond farewell, our love and strength go out to Banumathi, Priyadurga and Jayashree.
