SriRam Jaiswal
SriRam Jaiswal, father of Himal and Giri, left his body in the Auroville Health Centre in the afternoon of 17th December at 4.00 pm. He was 75 years old and had been suffering from cancer. His family was with him at the time of passing.
Old-timers may remember him from the years that SriRam stayed here with his wife, sons and daughter during the late seventies, early eighties, working at Matrimandir and staying at Samriddhi. Some five years ago, in 2004, he and his wife Parvati returned to Auroville, where he taught at ALL (Auroville Language Lab) and wrote short articles on the daily life of India, posted in the News&Notes. His deep interest in languages brought him to Sarnath, Varanasi, where he taught Sanskrit, Hindi and English till his physical situation gave out.
SriRam's body remained in the AVHC's Farewell Room where one could visit on Friday 18th, from 8.00 am till 6.00 pm.
Cremation took place on Saturday 19th, at Adventure's mandappam, at 8.00 am.
May he rest in peace.
