On Saturday, October 24th, at 00.45 am, Perumal was finally relieved from the long and arduous struggle he went through these last 18 months. He was just 41 years old.

About

D. Perumal, originally from Kottakarai, has been in Auroville since he was a kid. In the very early seventies he stayed with old-timers David and Angela in Kottakarai community. When they left, Perumal started his Auroville journey by living and working with different Aurovilians in different communities such as Kottakarai, Silence, Horizon/Revelation, Acceptance, Utility, SriMa, Fertile Windmill, Fertile, - picking up quite a number of skills, and friends, on the way. When the Foundation came into being, his name was added to the Masterlist.  Some 5 years ago Perumal moved to a place near Fertile where he planted a forest  and which he made his home (now Lumière).

In April 2008, returning from a work-trip to Sudan, he collapsed upon his arrival after a serious brain stroke, and never fully recovered. A team of his good friends formed and intensive therapies were undertaken but 2 months ago another stroke occurred. Perumal was taken to Vijaya Hospital in Chennai, from where he was transferred to PIMS. During his last week he stayed in the Auroville Health Centre where he passed away.

At the moment of transition, his wife Kundhavi, daughter Auroangeli and good friend Luk were with him. Our love goes out to all of his family and friends, specifically to his little son Madhav and Angeli, - and certainly to Perumal whom we remember as a young, bright and energetic Aurovilian, and will miss him.

On Sunday October 25th, Perumal’s body was cremated in Adventure’s flower strewn funeral grounds. Many came to bid him a last farewell and condolences from overseas flowed in. Perumal is free.
