Njal
On Tuesday evening, April 17th, after 9.00pm, our Aurovilian friend and brother Njal (Ehlert), left his body in his house in Center Field, after feeling unwell and uneasy during the day. He had turned 70 just weeks before his passing.
Njal, who hailed from Berlin, Germany, joined Auroville in 1992 and had been, with his partner Rita, a strong and relentless activist against the use of plastics and pesticides within and around Auroville, and will always be remembered for his annual market-stand with alternative materials in the cashew trial plot near Sailam. His efforts will surely be ongoing.
Njal's body was transferred to the Auroville Health Center, where friends could bid him a last farewell from 10.00 am onwards, till 8.00 pm the following morning. Our love and strength go out to his longtime friend and partner Rita.
The funeral took place in the presence of his family from abroad.
