Rosine Debode
Rosine Debode, a pioneer Aurovilian, passed into the Light on January 4, 2012 in Auroville. She returned home to Auroville only three months prior to complete her journey of 82 years. Rosine, who was originally from Belgium, lived for about five years in the mid seventies in Auroville. She built a permanent home in Certitude as part of an early group of houses designed by Piero and Gloria. It was after Rosine’s son visited Pondicherry and brought home a picture of the Mother that Rosine left everything to dedicate her life to Auroville and the vision of Sri Aurobindo and Mother.
Rosine was famous for her cooking skills which she shared with the Matrimandir Nursery Community and at Centre Kitchen. She worked in California as a cook in Hollywood in order to support the construction of the Matrimandir. She also lived in the Ashram in Pondicherry and in later years, the Sri Aurobindo Sadhana Peetham in Lodi, California. There, she was part of the resident community, again cooking, and also managing the West Coast office of Auroville International USA.
In the late afternoon of January 7, 2012, Rosine’s body was cremated in Adventure.
Thank you Rosine for all you have done for Auroville and for all the love you shared with us over the years.
