Narayan
Narayan, our dear, elderly Aurovilian brother, passed away on Monday, October 26th, at 8.15 in the evening in his home at Shanti community. He was 89 years old.
Matrimandir workers of the last 40 years will surely remember this feisty, determined worker, who lived with his wife Bhavani on site, overlooking the Matrimandir area with great care. Already in 1950 Narayan came to the Ashram after which circumstances called him back to his home in Bihar. When he returned to the Ashram in the early seventies, the Mother directed him to Auroville, with her blessings, and he stayed here ever since.
During the final two months Narayan had been coping with a sudden emergence of cancer, which he underwent with characteristic surrender and faith. On Monday, during a very peaceful evening, with candles and Sunil’s music, and surrounded by Bhavani, his son Alok, his friends Gerard and Fabienne, and Dr Amarnath, Narayan quietly slipped away, and went to his final resting place.
Those wishing to bid him farewell could do so in his house at Shanti, from 9.00 am till 9.00 pm. Following the arrival of his daughter, the cremation in Adventure’s burial ground took place on Friday afternoon.
Our love and sympathies go out to Bhavani, and to Alok and his sisters Baby and Lily. Thank you, Narayan, for all your work, determination and devotion.
