Housing Care Facility For Senior Aurovilians

Located between Arka and Mahalakshmi Park with access to the Crown road, Mahalakshmi aims at accommodating senior adults, especially those who need a bit of help and care. Inspired by the innate need to care for the seniors, the idea here is to provide an environment where the elderly will not feel isolated and confined indoors.  This housing project is central, it has a lift, and offers easy mobility for people on wheelchairs. It also comprises common spaces such as a canteen, a large living room (in addition to private kitchens and living rooms in each room), a meditation space and more.

To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honors.

What is Mahalakshmi Senior Citizen Facility?

Mahalakshmi Home, a place for assisted living, is a project of the Auroville Health Services. It arose out of the need for an economic and effective way to provide for the care of seniors given their growing numbers. It is intended for senior Aurovilians who can manage their daily living situation, but may require minimum support.

Who can live in Mahalakshmi Home?

Mahalakshmi home is a place for senior Aurovilians who had dedicated their life to Auroville. Residents coming to the Mahalakshmi Home have to leave their existing houses.

Facility

In a collective environment, the Mahalakshmi Home for Assisted Living provides a living space for senior citizens with individual bedrooms combined with a kitchenette and a bathroom, and shared areas for interactions, meetings and events. The residents will help each other and work together to arrange for the lifestyle they wish. It can accommodate up to eight seniors permanently and two temporarily.

The building for the home is made using new and more eco-friendly technologies, including the use of solar power. It has a lift, and offers easy mobility for people in wheelchairs. It also comprises common spaces such as a canteen, a large living room, a meditation space apart from housing the administrative office of AVHS (Auroville Health Services).

Location

The building is situated between Arka and Mahalakshmi Park with access to the Crown road. Residents of the Home will find Arka, a holistic project consisting of wellness treatments, therapies and activities to be easily accessible leading to better integration of Health Services.
