Barbara
Our sister and long-term Aurovilian, Barbara Heimlich, (USA), left her body early in the morning of June 15th in PIMS, in the presence of her son Akash and John of Matrimandir. She had been recently taken up for complications due to colon cancer which she had been battling the last half year. She was just 68.
Barbara came to India in 1969 and first stayed and worked in the Ashram. In 1973 she joined Auroville and became partner of the late Ruud Lohman. We will always remember her for her absolute dedication and quiet, steady presence at Matrimandir. Auroville and the work for Mother were her life.
Accompanied by Auroville's love and deep appreciation, Barbara now has left for better spaces. On Sunday afternoon, June 17th, her remains were cremated in Adventure’s Farewell Grounds with Mother’s recorded voice reading from Savitri, and friends reading passages from Ruud’s House for the Third Millennium and Bharathi’s poem ‘Hymn to Agni’ read in Tamil.
Our heartfelt love and sympathy go out to Akash, his partner Monica, Barbara’s close friends and family abroad.
