Caretaker of Needam Guest House

Rakesh, who joined Auroville in 2002 and worked in different capacities at various places in Auroville till 2008, passed away on July 17th due to a heart related medical condition. He was 40 years old.

About

Rakesh, along with his wife, was working with NGOs in Sudan on a UN programme. In Auroville, apart from taking care of Needam Guest House for many years, Rakesh worked at Matrimandir and Aurofuture (previous L'avenir d'Auroville). Hailing from Lucknow city in north India, he had many friends in Auroville and was known for his compassionate, friendly nature and simple lifestyle. Around 2008, Rakesh went out of Auroville to experience other places, traveled and worked in South America; Sudan was his latest place of work.

Around midnight of January 20th, our friend and brother Joachim Kochenburger (German national), left his body in the house of a good friend in Bommapalayam. He may have suffered a sudden stroke as he had not appeared to be ailing and seemed in good health; he was 71 years old.
