MinVayu

Education and Innovation for Local Fabrication

Minvayu is a project that started in 2010, founded by the Auroville Centre for Scientific Research Trust. The project's aim is to assist Indian villages in their need for power, through training, supplying and supporting rural mechanics to build, install and maintain low cost wind turbines.

The wind turbines are specially designed to operate efficiently in the lower wind speed ranges that are common in most regions in India and they are made of local materials. All technologies used are open-source.

Vision and Mission

MinVayu develops OPEN SOURCE technologies for urban and rural development in multiple areas including:

Small Wind Energy

  • We are part of Windempowerment.org
  • Lead trainers on small wind turbine technogy for NIWE, Chennai

Digital Manufacturing

  • Members of the global FabCity STEM educational movement
  • Build and Train manufacture of small, medium and large format 3D printers
  • Develop Cement/Lime 3D printers

Ocean/Village Waste Plastic Recycling Designing and Building

  • Hydraulic press for plastic sheet fabrication
  • Small extrusion systems for filament, pellet fabrication
  • Grinder/shredder for recycled plastic size reduction

Launching Waste to Product (W2P) Plastic and Biomass recycling and compounding open source circular economy project

Training Programmes

  • We organize village and youth training programs to disseminate the technologies around India and Internationally.

Minvayu’s aim is to increase local self reliance by training local mechanics and entrepreneurs that wish to become certified Village Partners, who will learn how to design, install and maintain wind home systems and run their own business serving the villagers in their area.

Additional training for productive applications of the energy generated by the wind turbines are also being develop including 3-D printing, plastic recycling, weaving and CNC wood rooter for carving.

Jorge, an Aurovillian, together with some volunteers and students are developing the project.
