Established in 1983, AVAG is an NGO committed to integrated grassroots community building with the villages surrounding Auroville in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu. AVAG offers an integrated and multifaceted programme that promotes solidarity and cooperation, and illuminates issues of gender and caste discrimination, which underlie the traditional social and economic structures of the villages. 

Holistic Approach to Children with Diverse Abilities

Deepam offers a daycare with educational activities for children and youth from the surrounding Occupational therapy for children and youth, from the local villages, who are affected by various disabilities. Outpatients from villages and from Auroville receive physiotherapy, speech therapy & occupational therapy. If required the children also receive health care, nutrition, and appliances. Deepam is located between the Auroville Health Centre and Last School. 

Connecting Local to Global Through Tamil Heritage

Mohanam is a non-profit, non-governmental organization to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu. It reflects the beauty, traditions, innovations and the continuing evolution of South Indian arts and culture. Mohanam Village Heritage Centre is the work and realization of a group of young men from the surrounding villages of Auroville, the universal city located near Pondicherry. Young Tamil’s from different villages created the heritage centre to be a bridge between the traditional and the modern, the old and the young, between what is happening in Auroville and what is unfolding in the villages around.
