Santosh Malik (Toshi)

Self - Disciplined and Dedicated to Auroville For Over 40 Years

Our dear Aurovilian friend and sister of the very first hour, Toshi (Santosh) Malik, wife of Prem Malik, moved on peacefully at 9pm on Friday, June 20th, 2014, after a year's illness in Delhi in the care of her sister. She was 86 years old.

About

While working for Auroville from its very start Prem and Toshi moved from Pondicherry to Auroville in the mid-seventies when their house in Auromodele was completed. Their joy of being here, their total engagement in this adventure, their work as pioneers, is known to us all.

After Prem moved on in his journey in 1999, Toshi plunged even deeper in her work at Bharat Nivas and at the Visitors’ Centre’s Info desk, where many a guest and visitor came away enriched by her clear understanding of the significant activities being done through the City of Dawn. Toshi’s command of English, Hindi and Sanskrit was helpful for translations of earlier Auroville publications, brochures, etc. Many of the Auroville family will dearly miss her.

When Aster met her in Delhi in the final month, Toshi told her “I am always walking around in Auroville.. I want to be there.., take me back with you....”

Knowing that Toshi, and Prem, will always be here in our memory, Auroville salutes them with love and deep gratitude for the many long years they have so wholeheartedly given to the Mother's Dream, the City of Auroville.
