Wim Aspeslagh

Lead Faculty for Living Routes (GEO's)

On Saturday, December 30th 2006, Aurovilian Wim Aspeslagh, originally from Belgium, succumbed in Delhi's Apollo Hospital to utter exhaustion and physical deterioration due to advanced leukemia. He was just 50 years old.

About

Wim joined Auroville in 2001 and was particularly active in bringing people together, co-organizing the GEO's programmes and making global issues, concepts and celebrations more of a reality in Auroville through his Kosmos Cafe and other creative events.

His lucent, conscious approach to that which he was going through during the last ten days deeply impressed the ones who were at his side. His body was flown to Belgium where it was cremated.

Our love and support go out to Wim's partner Thulsi, his sister Jo and his mother, as well as his other good friends in Adventure community and elsewhere.

Wim will be missed by many in various places of the world. The walk on the Way goes on, we'll meet again.

The Livingroutes.org site tells us that Wim was eight-time lead faculty for Living Routes (Geo's) and former instructor at the California Institute of Integral Studies and Adjunct Faculty in planning and public policy at the University of Oregon. Wim was an NGO consultant and lecturer in human rights, the environment and sustainability. His research and writing included metropolitan issues, sustainability studies and educational system reform, south Asian cultures, socio-economic and political globalization, and ecological worldviews.
