Tlaloc

Guided by Ancient Spirits and Beliefs

Many people in Auroville will have met Tlaloc, who was a regular visitor to Auroville right from the mid-1970s. Here is an account of Tlaloc’s life and his passing on 6th August, 2026, at the age of 80.

About

“Yesterday my oldest brother, Tlaloc, completed his current circle of life... with his Australian family (7), including his ex-wife, Susan and his son, Awan, by his bedside and his family in Hawaii and Reno joining via video feed we were with him in his final hour here on planet Earth...

For the last 2 years Tlaloc had been dealing with some grave health issues which left him bent and debilitated...Tlaloc always prided himself in strong body and strong mind… he was a tai chi master and practiced this art form daily...Tlaloc was a lifelong vegetarian and strived for good health and proper living...he did not see himself infirmed/ broken in his old age nor did he want to be a burden to others...he said, “I had a good 80 years, living the life I chose, wandering and wondering” (WW)...

Tlaloc has long been an advocate for assisted dying and discovered that it was possible/legal to do so in Oz...after two medical physicians deemed him eligible for Oz’s VAD (voluntary assisted dying) program he informed his family and set a date for the event. The “event” took place in a local hospital...stories; laughter; nervous banter; questions...we were there in support and love of him and of his choice in passing on....Tlaloc was pretty much himself…cool and steady... seemingly looking forward to the transition into his next chapter...the time had come...he lay on the bed and was given the bitter liquid potion...was asleep within minutes...the family gathered around him, hands held as one...positive loving thoughts were abundant...to help our friend make his passage/crossing with as much grace/ease as possible. Awan read aloud passages from the Tibetan book of the Dead until Tlaloc’s soul passed on....

My big brother, Tlaloc, was not governed by laws and written morality, but was guided more by the old ways, by ancient spirits and beliefs found in stone and water. He walked the world lightly...he lived his life on his own terms and passed on in the very same chosen manner.....rare and admirable stuff.

RIP, big brother… hope to see you on the other side…”
