Future School

For Children of 14 - 19 Years of Age

Future School seeks to provide an environment in which Auroville youth and those dedicated to their education may reach their own unique potential through a balanced development of body, mind, emotion, and spirit. Inspired by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, the school aspires to create a platform for self-discovery. Students are encouraged to follow a value-oriented approach to life in which they have an opportunity to create a deeper understanding of their responsibility to self, community, and the world.

A Collective Journey to Manifest Auroville's Vision

Interwoven with this endeavour toward individual development is a collective aspiration toward a manifestation of the ideals of Auroville as expressed in its charter. Toward this, we aim to discover the essence behind our diverse cultural, ethnic, and individual heritages while reflecting the international character of Auroville.

Our deepest aspiration is to progressively develop our consciousness to prepare the youth and ourselves to manifest a truer, higher and more joyful life on earth.

General Information

Future School is a high school for Auroville youth between the ages of 14 and 20 offering a broad program of education. The school incorporates many different teaching-learning methods and environments: projects, tutorials, independent research, traditional lectures, small groups, large groups, one-on-one approach, peer teaching and self-study. In this way, we hope to meet the needs of each individual, and we feel that the combination of required areas of study with a choice of particular subjects gives the students the chance to get in touch with new areas of knowledge and at the same time to explore their interests.

Statistics

Over the last few years, we've had from 50 to 63 students per academic year representing between 15 and 18 nationalities. Courses are taught by 10 full-time and 20 part-time Aurovilian teachers from all over the world. The administration has 3 full-time Aurovilians

Campus

Current facilities include Science and Computer labs, classrooms for all subjects including Arts, a beautiful library with study areas, a kitchen with dining areas, and a seminar room for presentations and other all-school gatherings. Long-term plans include a multi-purpose hall for up to 100 students, teachers and staff as well as additional staff quarters.

Program

Future School is recognized by Edexcel (International British Education and Examination Board) as an exam centre through which students can sit for the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) and IAL (International Advanced Level) exams.

Where suited, we also offer the possibility of Practical Training with Auroville Units, making use of the diverse possibilities offered by Auroville at large. Through our mentoring program, we assist the students in making good individual choices that help them to explore and discover, progress and grow.

Approach

While offering the opportunity for a variety of choices, the school seeks to balance independence and freedom on one hand, with respect and responsibility on the other. Students are supported in an interactive and open communication environment. At the same time, they are encouraged to be aware of their choices and to forge their own path for their growth and progress.

We hope that this environment and the educational program will help the students to become self-aware, self-motivated, and self-controlled.

Future School offers a high school equivalent education to primarily Aurovillian students. Last school year (2018-2019), there were 57 adolescents/young adults from 21 nationalities enrolled in the school.
