Donations from Foreign nationals

All donations by Foreign Nationals and OCIs are made to “Auroville Foundation” and channelled to the approved Project, as indicated by the Donor.
Foreign contributions are regulated under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act 2010, the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Rules 2011 and the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Rules 2025. Donations from foreign nationals, including persons of Indian origin who have acquired foreign citizenship are treated as foreign contributions, also when the donor resides in India.
For foreign contributions there is no income tax relief in India. In some cases the Auroville International Centre abroad may be able to offer tax relief to the donor.
It may be noted that contributions made by citizens of India living outside India (i.e., Non-Resident Indians), from their personal savings, through the normal banking channels, are not treated as foreign contributions.
Donations from foreign nationals or organisations institutions to Auroville Foundation may be made by bank transfer, by cheque / demand draft or through Auroville centres abroad.

- Amount of donation
- Purpose of donation
- Mode of payment (bank transfer, cheque / demand draft, through Auroville centre abroad)
- Donor’s name and address
- Donor’s tax identification number (TIN) or passport number
Tax Exemptions
Foreign donations do not qualify for Income Tax deductions except in their countries of origin.
