Auroville Bioregional Sports and Culture Association
ABSCA is a collaborative initiative with different units in Auroville and the villages (AVAG, Auroville Sports Resource Centre, Dehashakti, Paalam, etc., are committed to promoting solidarity, team building, and removing inequalities through sports and cultural activities in the bioregion.
This project aims to integrate youth from Auroville and the bio-region in a programme of local sports, facility development, and coaching that will lead to regular competitions on local, district, and regional levels and serve as a platform to foster human unity and a means for positive interaction between the youth in Auroville and the surrounding villages.
The unity, equality, and fullest potential that this association brings helps to break down social barriers and draw together young women and men in pursuit of self-mastery and collaboration.
We undertake the following essential tasks:
- Form sports clubs in villages and provide coaching and training in various sports.
- Provide sports equipment and access to facilities.
- Conduct sports events.
- Facilitate participation at district and state-level competitions.
This association fosters champions of change - youth who are committed to health and social development rather than anti-social activities. It creates a culture where the measure of admiration and success is perseverance, achievement, and skills rather than the current cultural normative markers of caste and class.
