Legal Protection of Auroville Name and Symbol

Issues concerning the use of the name and symbol of Auroville are initially taken up by the Name and Symbol of Auroville Protection Desk under the Legal Cell (Unit of Auroville Foundation).

In many cases, such matters can be resolved without legal action, with goodwill and cooperation from the concerned parties.

The Auroville Name and Symbol Protection Desk under the Legal Cell (Unit of Auroville Foundation) is authorized to undertake all necessary measures for the protection of the name and symbol of Auroville in accordance with the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950 (Act No. 12 of 1950), including communicating and interacting with individuals, entities, organizations, institutions, government authorities, and others, with a view to preventing improper use of the name or symbol of Auroville.

Auroville Foundation may pursue such actions as may be deemed necessary including legal or administrative actions for the protection and enforcement of the rights associated with the name and symbol of Auroville.
