Stephen Raj
On Tuesday 13th December at around 3pm, our friend and brother Stephen Raj (Jesudass) from Isaiambalam, left his body in Pondy’s Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. Being a heart patient and feeling quite unwell in the final weeks, he was being prepared for treatment of a liver infection when the cardiac arrest occurred. He had just turned 60 in September.
Stephen Raj is one of those long-term friends who has always been around somehow. Having arrived with his family from Coimbatore in the early seventies, when they joined Bryan’s community work in Fraternity, he continued to work and grow there after which he was for many years member of the LEM, the LCC and Land Board staff until recently. At the same time, together with his wife Stella, he was working and teaching at Isaiambalam School in Kottakarai. In 2004 he officially joined Auroville.
After a short ritual visit to his home in Isaiambalam, the body was kept in the Crown Road’s Farewell Centre where friends and relatives could bid him goodbye. The burial took place on Wednesday 14th December at Adventure’s burial grounds.
Our warmest sympathy goes out to his wife Stella, to nephew Tixon and his family, as well as friends and colleagues of Isaiambalam School.
