Gert Paschinger

Quiet and Artistic Greenworker

Aurovilian Gert Paschinger, Austrian, passed away in his sleep early Sunday morning, August 26th, at the age of 63 in his house in 'Ritam' in the north-western part of the Greenbelt. Gert suffered from a heart problem since several years.

About

First and foremost being a (painting) artist, Gert approached life and all he did with an artistic eye. It was in this way that he, and his wife Barbara, built up, landscaped and cultivated from scratch the Ritam settlement with its gentle houses, park-like environment and harmoniously laid out flower, fruit and vegetable gardens & nursery. During the eleven years of his staying in Auroville, Gert was open to newcomer greenworkers, helping them finding their way with thoughtful advice and suggestions.

His quiet stature and way of living, eye for fine detail and depth of thought was characteristic and genuine.

Gert's body remained in the Auroville Health Centre’s new farewell room during the week where friends could be with him for a few hours every afternoon. On Saturday, September 1st, his remains were returned to the earth in the Ritam settlement itself at 5.30 am.

Our love and strength go out to his wife Barbara. May the Grace be with them both.
