Elvira Salamanca

Artist and Researcher

Jean-François Audic informed us that his partner Elvira Salamanca, Spanish Aurovilian from Catalonia, who lived with him in Pitchandikulam (Coin de Terre), passed away in Spain in his presence in the morning of Tuesday, 9th August after a struggle with cancer. She was 71 years old.

About

Elvira joined Auroville in 2001. She was known as a sweet and lovable person, whose deep and often poignant portraits of people from all over the world, and particularly of Native Indians, were remarkable. She also gave classes in Spanish and flamenco dance, and worked as a researcher in Pitchandikulam. Due to family reasons she had to divide her time between Auroville and Spain.

Our love and sympathy go out to Jean-François, Elvira’s daughter and friends.

Lived a Simple, Devoted Life

On Saturday 2nd January, noontime, our friend and brother Aurovilian Georges Blanchet left his body in PIMS hospital at the age of 65 due to a general systems collapse originally caused by a possibly long festering infection in the lungs. His condition had become apparent just a few weeks prior; he had been conscious throughout the process, and appeared quietly ready and prepared.

In the afternoon of Tuesday 16th February our good friend and brother Mani (P. Munian) who lived in the Pump House near Bharat Nivas left his body at Trichy Hospital due to kidney failure. He was 58 years old.

On 29th February, Roy (Alistair Wicks) of New Creation passed away due to kidney failure in his UK home in the presence of his daughter and son. He was 92 years old.
