Sometimes it’s the small moments of synchronicity that seem
to point quietly at something else that is at work, perhaps a grace. Such was
the case for the recent Saarang exhibition-event at India Space in Bharat
Nivas. The project, which explores the essence and histories of Hindustani and
Carnatic music, had been in the planning stages for months. The date for the
inauguration was shifted continuously to suit everyone’s needs, until it
settled on January 24. In the meantime, the symbol of Saraswati, the Hindu
goddess of education and music, was chosen to highlight the art adorning the
festival brochures and banners. It turned out that January 24 was Saraswati
Puja. Another synchronicity: the closing ceremony will coincide with the
closing day of the upcoming Auroville Retreat, and Dr. Karan Singh, mentioned within the panels
of the exhibition by renowned musician Shiv Kumar Sharma, will be invited to
attend the final concert.
