• Avoid displaying signs of wealth: jewelry, cameras, laptops, I pods, etc. may be targeted for theft by those awaiting a moment of inattention.
• Avoid carrying bags on the back or front baskets of either cycles or motorbikes.
• For obvious security reasons, please do not offer rides to men you don't know.
• Don't invite unknown persons into your accommodation.
• Remember night falls quickly over here. It is pitch black before you know it
(Around 6:30 of 7:00 pm depending on the time of the year).
• If you must travel at dusk or at night, go in groups or ask someone to escort you, especially on the back roads between Fertile and Utility, and the tar road from Kuilapalayam to Edayanchavadi.
• If you want to drive a vehicle, you need to have an International Driving Permit.
The permit is compulsory for two wheelers and all other vehicles.
• Keep any precious belongings in your guest house safe at all times (documents and cash especially).
• Couples should refrain from showing their affection in public places (especially on the beach).
• Ladies: Wearing of full piece bathing suits will save you from trouble on the beach.
• Dress decently by local standards, both men and women: pants or long shorts and tops with sleeves, if you are likely to pass through or near villages. Shirtless is not locally acceptable for men in public places.
